Internship & Volunteer Information

The Edwards Aquifer and Research Data Center (EARDC) offers a nonpaid Internship and Volunteer Program in the Aquatic Toxicity Testing Laboratory and the Analytical Laboratory. EARDC is located in the Freeman Aquatic Biology Building. EARDC is divided into four areas of interest: Technical Services Center, Research Center, Data Center and an Education Center. Internship opportunities at EARDC are available throughout the year and offer excellent hands-on experience for those pursuing an environmental career.

Responsibilities will include performing toxicity tests utilizing freshwater vertebrate and invertebrate species, culturing aquatic organisms, maintaining laboratory instruments/equipment/records, and performing basic wet chemistry analysis under the supervision of EARDC biologists/analysts. Duties may also include collection of endangered and threatened salamanders in area rivers and springs. These positions require some background experience in aquatic biology, zoology, chemistry, environmental science, or related fields. Flexible schedules are available. Former or current clients include the Edwards Underground Water District, Environmental Protection Agency, Barton Springs Conservation District, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Texas Water Development Board, U.S.D.A.-Natural Resources Conservation Service, Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission, Texas Nature Conservancy as well as numerous private citizens.
